The Friends of Kresge Art Museum is open to anyone who loves ... art, museums, education, architecture, food, travel, design, and interesting people!

In the past few years, Friends members have traveled to Greece, China, Mexico, Philadelphia, Toledo, Chicago and more - all in the name of art and fun! We’ve had a wine tasting, an exclusive home tour, an open studio event, walking tours, and countless other activities and events that help raise money for and awareness of Kresge Art Museum.

Friends members get other perks - discounts at the museum store, a newsletter, early notification on trips and more -- all starting at a $35 membership! Much of the money we raise goes toward purchasing new works of art, the docent program that provides educational museum tours for thousands of school children and adults each year, as well as towards the future Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum facility.

Why do we exist (aside from all those perks)? The Friends group was established over 25 years ago because it believes in Kresge Art Museum and what the staff is working to accomplish. Because of its connection to Michigan State University, the museum’s mission is distinct from most art museums in the state. The collection is carefully chosen to give viewers a historical view of trends throughout 5,000 years of artistic expression. You’ll see everything from Greek pottery and sculpture to a modern-day all-too-realistic sculpture of a middle aged bathing beauty by Duane Hanson.

Needless to say, we think the collection is spectacular. But the Friends also believe it deserves better housing. So recently we’ve been working to raise money and expand membership to support Kresge’s and MSU’s efforts to build the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, designed by Zaha Hadid.

If you’d like more information on joining friends, contact Friends President Suzanne Brouse or Events/Communications Coordinator Christine Nichols.
