The 8th annual Twilight in the Garden fundraiser for the Art Museum on Sunday, September 16th, at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development, was a resounding success!
The evening began at 4:30 p.m., with music provided by the Presto Okemos High School String Quartet. Nearly 350 guests mingled as they enjoyed complimentary sparkling wine and hors d’oeuvres and viewed a wide array of silent auction items on display in the two auditoriums. Intense interest and conversation was sparked by renderings of potential designs for the future Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum on display in the Henry Center atrium.
During this time, guests could also sign up to purchase crow sculptures created especially for the event by sculptor Mark Chatterley, as well as a variety of centerpieces donated by the Greater Lansing Potters’ Guild and MSU Clay Club members and embellished with flowers and greens by the Twilight Decorations Committee.
Honorary Chairs for Twilight 2007 included all members of the Better Art Museum Committee, Selma Hollander and the late Stanley C. Hollander, and Provost Kim A. Wilcox and Diane Del Buono. The Provost served as a guest auctioneer in the evening’s live auction portion.
The live auction this year was conducted by Sheridan Realty and Auction Services, who added excitement and intensity to the bidding on everything from vacation packages to jewelry to a tailgate party with Sparty. Altogether, Twilight 2007 raised over $90,000 in proceeds to benefit the Art Museum Facilities Fund to build the future Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum.
We would like to thank the Twilight Committee for many months of planning, and the volunteers who helped the day of the event. We also extend our gratitude to Phyllis Riley, Hillary Schmitt and the staff of the University Club; and the generous sponsors and auction donors.
